What was your reaction when you found out you were pregnant? I starred at the positive pregnancy test for a long time. Then I called my oldest friend. I had to say it out loud to someone besides myself--but in that time that I was staring at the stick, I smiled. I had a feeling that I was pregnant so I wasn't surprised in that way, but my boyfriend and I had only been dating for 5 months and we weren't  planning to start a family for a couple of years so I had the thought of "is this okay?" But I didn't feel panicked, which made me feel at ease.

Were you hoping for a specific gender? Nope! Healthy baby was all we wanted, though I always felt that he was a boy! (I was right)

How was your experience being pregnant? What were some of the "perks" of it? Pregnancy is weird, man! My body started doing all of the unusual things that the apps say will happen, and my eyes have been wide in wonderment the whole time. It's a very impressive experience and I'm amazed by my body. I feel lucky to say that my pregnancy has been really good and very healthy. Continuing to exercise throughout my pregnancy has helped a lot! Plus, I've never eaten a healthier diet in my life.  No sickness, but I've had the normal stuff: fatigue, headaches at times when the hormones/blood volume are surging, now in my third trimester, I am physically tired! Only being able to sleep on your sides is so annoying. Plus "lightning crotch" is extremely uncomfortable--for the non-pregnants, that's when the (now big) baby is triggering nerves in your vagina because of the weight and pressure of the uterus, plus everything is relaxing down there as the cervix is dilating..so it basically feels like shooting pains in your lady. Perks of pregnancy? Hahahahah. Sometimes getting a seat on a crowded train? Good hair and nails? The ability to sleep through the end of the world? My perk of pregnancy has yet to arrive but he will be here in just about a week and I really can't wait to meet him!

Did you have a difficult time picking out a name? Were there any names that your partner liked more than you did? We felt a huge responsibility in naming this person that we haven't met yet! We wanted to give him a name that is unique, but not too "out there", has presence and can grow with him from birth into adulthood. Ultimately, Jason (my love) picked the baby's first name and I chose his middle name accordingly! It took us a long time to choose and we had a list going; we always had a top-three selection. We had to see it in writing and we put it with our names as well, to make sure that our family unit made sense for Christmas cards and things like that! It's pretty epic.

What is one trait of yours that you hope your baby acquires? I hope that he inherits my sense of wonder about the world. The little things, like noticing the moon and the kind of blue the sky is. Just to be aware of his surroundings and to be astute in general. Awareness is key!
