We Should Be Kids Again

We Should Be Kids Again

Have you ever seen a child concerned about their bare ass on a beach? Has a kid ever stopped singing or dancing because they are worried about what their peers will think? A toddler will literally rip a fart and laugh hysterically in awe of the sound that he created with his own body.

Somewhere along the line, we lost this spontaneous, unencumbered way of being and instead started caring about what others think about us. Most of us will not dance in public without liquid courage or without a reasonable wager on the line. Even more of us will spend our lifetime feeling uncomfortable with our own naked body. Oh, and please don't ever ask us to talk out loud on a subject that we haven't mastered.

When did we all get so fucking scared to live?

These experiences that were once natural to us have become painstakingly embarrassing. Society redefined raw and authentic as being immature, scary or "out there" behavior. More and more people are discovering the truth: Being in the moment is one of the only real things we have left.

Kids teach us this. Children are the masters of this. They don't give a fuck if they have a straight up poopie diaper dripping down their leg; they are still going to chase down the little dachshund that is always off his leash. Kid's dreams are the coolest. They want to be tree climbers, doctors for sick dolls, cake makers and car washers. They pick their nose and eat it in front of adults of various economic and education status. This may not be the greatest example of ultimate freedom and also, ISN'T IT KIND OF?

Let's be like the kids we once were. Let's live in the moment. Let's laugh big belly laughs and cry big, fat tears. Let's live as unabashed as a five-year-old in a McDonald's PlayPlace. Let's have instant best friends and color all over the god damn walls. Let's tell Mom and Dad we love them THISSSSSS much. Let's sing in the car, let's make messes and then clean them up.

Ok, ok, ok. The point is: We can be kids again.
