Why did you decide to get braids? I got braids because they're popping; needless to say! Well I really got braids as a protective style. My hair is natural and I'm always looking for looks to try that'll slay and protect my hair simultaneously.
What does your natural hair look like? My natural hair is filled with tight coils and it's very thick. It's a mixture of 4B/4C textures. When blow out I have a mini Angela Davis fro; and when wet my shrinkage is on a thousand.
What other hairstyles have you tried in the past? Which one is you favorite and why? Being that I do hair and I'm naturally very experimental it's safe to say that I've tried everything. I had a relaxer for a few years, I've worn so many of weaves, crochet styles, twist-outs, and I'm not afraid of color.
What are some things people have said about your hair? Good or Bad. I was in and out of self crises when I first went fully natural in 2014. My hair was very short and it was an interesting time for me. I was exploring my self-confidence with the new look while everyone around me had shady things to say - like the aunt that asks you why your hair isn't done when you're just being free. Or the guy that asks how come you don't wear wigs like everyone else with short hair, when you're really just trying to become one with your true self. It was a time period that built me up more than it could ever break me down. I realized that what I do with myself won't always be easily perceived by others, and that is okay.
Do you have a favorite salon in the city? My hair salon days ended just before I got to undergrad and become a complete DIY kind of girl with my hair so I actually don't have any favorite salons.
